Narashino at Last!

Ah, Narashino is a lovely place…

A pocket-sized city, Narashino has a lot of interesting places in a small space. There are roughly a jillion department stores, several hospitals, sixteen elementary schools, seven junior high schools, and two high school. I’ve seen one small Buddhist Temple (o tera) with attached cemetary and a church of uncertain denomination. While there are no (read: NO) sweeping lawns or mini-forests such as there are in Alabama or Georgia, there are a great deal of smallish green spots that are refreshing to the eye. Lots of  my neighbors seem to be avid gardeners.

I live in a house. It is very small. Technically it could be considered one room. All of the smaller rooms (kitchen, bathroom, toilet, hallway, bedroom, and living room) are all connected to one another, separated only by sliding doors. My little house is very nice. I LOVE Japanese baths. My futon is new and very very very comfy. Previous ALTs have lived there, and I:ve inherited the things they’ve left: everything from plates to teaching materials.

Today was my first day at school. I am going to be working at the 7th Junior High until December. There are three English teachers there. They all seem to be very enthusiastic about their jobs, and are very friendly. The school principal is really friendly too, and speaks English very well. I am looking forward to working there.

So far so good.
